NELJAPÄEV, 14. jaanuar 2016.//THURSDAY, January 14th 2016
Córdoba on Thursday was an exciting experience for all of us. On that day, we had just as much action as the other days. By this time, we were all pretty comfortably settled. It was a very exciting day.
As always, we woke up in our various host’s homes. (Approximately 7:30.) Next, we met up at the Spanish school. This day is characterized best by three words – work, activities, and party.
First there was the work. It was very simple. We watched a short video and we had to write a reflectionon what we thought of the video. So we put all our heads together. We came up with a lot of good ideasabout how to help the world’s situation. By the end of the week, we had a wall full of ideas.
The most significant things that took place that day was our outdoor activities. First of all, we drove by bus to the city center. Then, we visited the Botanical Gardens of Córdoba. We saw many interesting plants. They even had American cacti. It was an interesting place.
We were then divided into three different groups. All the groups were able to do three different activities. First there was the kayaking. The water was surprising warm. It was incredible that we were able to do it in the month of January!
The following activity was archery. It was very interesting to do. All of us were allowed to shoot as much as they wanted. It was great experience.
The last activity was bird watching for different bird species. We were given binoculars and we started to watch for birds. There are lots of bird species in Córdoba. On this day, we saw many of them.
Once all of these activities were carried out, we got together again in the botanical gardens. There we talked about our experiences and we had a picnic. When the picnic was over, we all went back to our homes to prepare for the party.
Each country had to perform a dance at the party. It is for this reason that we got together a little bit before the party to prepare for the dance. I had never performed this type of dance before.
The party started at seven. Our host’s parents were also present. The party began with the performing of all our dances. Our dance was the Kaerajaan. Then we all ate together. After that, there was a huge photoshoot. When it was over, those who wanted to got to dance some more. The party was very exciting, but also a little sad, because we all knew that the following day was our last in Spain.
Our celebration ended at half past ten. From there we separated for the night. That Thursday was very full of activities, and I do not think that we will ever forgetthis day. Theodor Mägi, Estonia.
TIME FOR REFLECTION by Romanian Team
Time for Reflection
There’s no better time than today to start reflecting on what we are doing to our planet and on the negative impact our actions will have on our future.
This is what the Spanish organisers of the first meeting, teachers and students from I.E.S. Gran Capitan from Cordoba wanted all the participants to do: watch some awareness- raising videos and take some time to reflect.
The students’ reflections were then posted on a board for everybody to see and to inspire positive behavior.
Here are the materials that were food for thought:

CHALLENGE IN SIBIU
CHALLENGE
2 – STORY OF A TREE
Nature is a living thing. It breathes,
it grows, it brings us joy, but most of all, it suffers at our hands. All the
elements of nature have a story to tell, if only we were patient and willing
enough to listen.
So
here’s your project challenge:
Work
with your teachers to choose a tree that is representative of the vegetation in
your country. Then write its story as a first person narrative – its story from
birth to death. Tell the story in a video or an animation. Let your creativity flow!
SWOT ANALYSES IN SIBIU
SWOT analyses: „Land and forest degradation“
|
|
Strengths:
What kind of services offer forests and land in your country?
What is already done in your country to protect forests and avoid
land degradation?
|
Weaknesses:
What are the main problems/obstacles with forests and lands in your country?
Are these problems natural (climate effects, seasonal droughts, flooding etc)or caused by human activity?
Why these problems have not been solved or dealt with yet?
|
Opportunities:
Who (students, parents, politicians, NGOs etc) and how could promote sustainable use of forests and land in your country?
What outcome can we expect by rising public awareness?
|
Threats:
What are the environmental effects if we do not stop forests and land degradation?
How does it impact our everyday life?
Why do people tend to ignore these problems?

Plastic Not-So-Fantastic.
Reading.
A month ago I decided to give up plastic for the whole of December. My aim was not to buy anything new made from plastic or wrapped in plastic. I was able to keep and use the plastic I already owned, but if anything ran out I would have to buy a plastic-free replacement.
Plastics are extremely useful and versatile and the goal of the experiment was not to criticise the material itself. However, disposing of an ever-growing amount of plastic is a problem for the UK’s recycling system.
To find out how much my household — my husband, young son and I — usually contribute to this plastic mountain, I counted up a normal month’s plastic waste. It totalled 603 items, of which 120 were the baby’s nappies and most of the rest were food and drink packaging.
So my challenge was to find out whether it was possible to live a normal life without producing any plastic waste at all. The short answer was no. However, I did cut the amount by 80% to 116 items.
I did not have to spend hours on the hunt for plastic-free food. I tended to visit the butcher and local market stalls rather than the supermarket. Although, my family and I did have to go without some of our usual food — no yoghurts, biscuits, crisps or fresh strawberries. Cheese was out unless wrapped in paper, as were takeaway meals. So, with December over and all restrictions lifted, will I go back to my old habits? Yes and no.
Living for a month without plastic has changed the way that I think about disposable items, no matter what material they are made from. I now take a reusable water bottle with me wherever I go and I keep a mug at work for my tea.
Might you imitate this woman for an evening ?
From cell phones and computers to bicycle helmets….The challenge is quite simple – Attempt to refuse single-use plastic during an afternoon.
Spend an afternoon exploring the use of plastics in your life, try to avoid the use or purchase of plastic throughout the afternoon, and finally answer with your classmates some questions.
Please, Make a short video where you show us your achievements and your problems, and also, prepare a reflection for the Erasmus group.
Some ideas : http://myplasticfreelife.com/plasticfreeguide/
· Do you think it’s possible to live life without plastic? Or to at least live with less of it?
· Are you wearing plastic now ? Really ?
· Is it possible to reduce the packaging of products at the supermarket ? Give us some exemples
· What was the most complicated for you not to use during this experience ?
· What were the consequences on what you eat this day ?
· What plastics things are not important or not necessary for you now ?
